About You

This page is where you can usually find information that more closely resembles a therapist’s resume than a description of who they work with, how they work, and why the heck they may be able to help. I will get to sharing about me; but first, I will describe clients I have success with and what makes us a good team.

  • You or someone in your life has described you as “Type A” (high achieving, ambitious, anxious, organized).

  • You experienced trauma that has never felt healed or found a home in your body that is comfortable. I often check-in with clients about this as, “does it still feel unsettled or active?” meaning, does it continue to bother you during everyday life?

  • You desperately want your life to be more organized but get easily overwhelmed by trying to choose the “right way” to make it happen.

  • You are working through grief or trying to make sense of a “new normal”.

  • You may know some of the things you need to do to feel better but can’t get over a mental / emotional hurdle to make it happen.

About Us

In therapy, I believe WHO you work with is almost as important as WHY you are seeking help. Clients who get the most out of their time with me show up ready to work and are willing to be challenged. Together, we invest in goals that make sense to you and would help you feel more coordinated between your thoughts (head) and feelings (heart).

About Me

I've dedicated a career (and a whole lot of bookshelf space) towards cultivating a deep and specialized understanding of the experiences of anxiety, grief and trauma. My name is pronounced Kara (care-a, not car-a; though if I’m being honest I’ll answer to either) and my pronouns are she/her. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), have a Certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C), and am a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP). I work with adult (18+) individuals, couples, and families specializing in grief/loss, trauma, and anxiety.

Through education, training, life experience, a whole lot of reading, and having been a client in therapy myself, I am passionate about and believe in the process of therapy. My goal for clients is for them to align their head and heart, feel empowered to make changes that help them feel better, and to learn more about themselves in the process. I love reading and collecting resources that may be helpful - I enjoy recommending videos, articles, and books to people I work with.

If I could no longer work as a therapist, I would pursue a job doing something else I love. Cooking, decorating, gardening, organizing, … maybe combine all of those things and plan weddings?

I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I graduated with my Bachelors in Human Service Management from St. Cloud State University/University of Phoenix and my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University.  I have been working as a licensed therapist since 2016 and have been in private practice since 2014.

If you read this far, I’m hopeful it feels like time well spent and you either feel more confident about the idea of working together, or have a feel that I am not the right fit for you (trust your gut!). If it doesn’t seem like we would make a good team, I will gladly help you find another therapist that would be a better fit. Feel free to get in touch and let me know you’d like some help finding a therapist. I will spend the time hearing what you are looking for and finding someone in my network / professional community who you are excited to work with.
